Behavioural Changes A Continuous State of Becoming

As a professional life coach, many clients come to me with the assistance to attain the goal of changing something in their life. It can be a change in their communication style, a change in their work performance, a change in their relationship building with others, or maybe it’s creating a change to focus on a healthier lifestyle. There are many ways to integrate personal change. The problem lies in the client thinking that once the change is attained, there is nothing left to do. This way of thinking couldn’t be more wrong. So, when I coach any client that wants to make a personal change in their life, I first take them through all the steps required to create the change; but more importantly is to coach them to focus upon sustaining that change through the idea of becoming that change.

For continuous change to be effective in your life, you must think in terms of becoming. When you are in a world of becoming, the work is never done. You keep moving toward the personal changes you want to create in your life. And each time you create a new change; YOU then want to become that change. It’s a fact that creating positive changes in your life brings fulfillment. As these changes relate to becoming, your goal is to keep reaching, keep driving toward that attainment, and the fulfillment of those personal changes through sustaining them.

But why the term of becoming? With all the previous coaching steps in the transitional process of change, wouldn’t we have already created the change? Well, first, we are becoming because our change needs us to be continually motivated, focused, and positive toward having consistent awareness and observation regarding our progress if we want to be successful regarding the sustaining of these changes. The second question is a little tricky. The answer is yes, we have created a change by deciding exactly what to change, why we wanted to introduce a change, and how to create the change, but this is where many clients require continuous efforts if they are to find some solid ground – and that is in becoming the change through sustaining it.

So, go back to the first question. Note that it states: becoming. When we begin the transitional journey of a personal change for ourselves, we don’t have to stop after we initially change the things we wanted to change. Our world is now in the palm of our hands. So, why stop now? We must continue to seek out change. We will discover more and more fulfillment by continuing to enhance our life with every personal change we attain and sustain.

This is where we not only begin to propose physical actions in implementing personal change but to continue to sustain a course of creating continuous change naturally in our lives. Because the client is well prepared for adjustments as they have traveled through the stages of transition through coaching regarding these changes, they often experience the realisation that they are, after all, highly adaptive creatures. In becoming the change, the client must make it a personal mission in moving forward with a new outlook regarding any adjustments now required of them whether these changes are forced or chosen and continue the focus to seek additional ways to sustain those personal changes they want to create for themselves.
